A little maintenance for one of our favorite places.

50 members from the Women’s Outdoor Club will meet in the Short Sands parking lot for warm beverages before taking the 20-minute trail through the forest to the beach. We’ve planned our cleanup a little after low tide, when more of the shoreline is exposed and we can reach debris before the water moves back in.

We’ll spend about an hour working along the shoreline, collecting debris and microplastics before they have a chance to re-enter the water. Plastics that accumulate along the coast don’t stay there—they break down into smaller pieces, move through marine ecosystems, and can eventually be ingested by marine life. It’s a small action with a direct impact, and a chance to leave a place we love better than we found it.

After the cleanup, we’ll settle in for a BYO picnic and rock painting. Find a rock along the way; Landdd will have paints and brushes waiting for you. We’ll stay on the beach as the high tide returns around 2:45 PM—eating, painting, exploring tidepools, and spending the afternoon by the water together. We will return to the lot at 3pm, or at your own speed.  Debris can be hauled out from here or placed in the recying/trash cans at the lot.

amika will be gifting the group with hair essentials, including a new launch!

CARPOOL—
We STRONGLY encourage carpooling and we’ll help connect anyone looking to share a ride via the Whats App subgroup, “Rideshare”.

*TRAILHEAD—
Short Sands — The Big Lot. Look for the Landdd sign in the parking lot. Exact placement will depend on parking availability. Cell service is limited to nonexistent here, so please check WhatsApp for any updates and have directions saved before heading out.

NOTE: This event will take place rain or shine unless trail or beach conditions make it unsafe to proceed. The $25 registration fee is non-refundable and holds your place for the event. With a limited group of 50 and products and materials planned specifically for each attendee, the fee helps us keep spots from going unused. By registering, you’re confirming that you’re committed to joining us for the day.

All attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver on site.

Join us for an evening of connection at our BIPOC Happy Hour at Aalto Lounge

Alto Lounge is a proudly queer owned neighborhood gathering space in the heart of Portland. At Queer Cobija supporting queer owned businesses is one of the ways we invest back into the community we call home, and we're excited to gather in a space that celebrates and uplifts queer people every day.

This happy hour is a chance to slow down, meet new people, reconnect with familiar faces, and build meaningful community in a welcoming environment.

Whether you're coming solo or bringing a friend, you'll find good conversation, great drinks, and a space where you can show up exactly as you are. We can't wait to share the evening with you.
